Waiver Wire Watch List: Week 1

Welcome back to this year’s version of Waiver Wire Watch List! If this is your first time reading, I select one player from each of the main positions (QB, RB, WR, and TE) to target on your league’s waiver wire for every week of the fantasy season. I hope you enjoy!

Quarterback: The quarterback you should target for week 1 is Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills. There are many reasons for this, one is that he is surrounded by a complete new supporting cast and offensive line. The Bills drafted Cody Ford with their second round pick and have plenty of new starters this year to better protect Josh Allen. The Bills also signed new receivers such as Cole Beasley and John Brown to add a safety blanket over the middle, and a burner to take the top off the defense. Finally, Josh Allen is still a very talented runner and quarterbacks who can run, rack up fantasy points even when they struggle throwing the ball. Allen has a very high ceiling this year, and you should pick him up for your team if available.

Running Back: Josh Allen’s teammate in the backfield, Frank Gore, is a running back you should keep your eye for week 1. The Bills cut Lesean McCoy this past week, so the carries are up for grabs between Gore and rookie Devin Singletary. Singletary is another good pickup option but he is available in less leagues than Gore is, and since Singletary is just a rookie I fully expect Gore to get the bulk of the carries against the Jets.

Wide Receiver: Recently traded wide receiver Kenny Stills is a must add for week 1. The newest member of the Texans will carve out a role in an offense that has Deandre Hopkins, but also Will Fuller and Keke Coutee who are often injured. Due to the injury history of the latter two receivers mentioned before, Stills could very well possibly be the number two receiver in the Texans high flying offense. Tight End: Aaron Rodgers is back from injury this season and is looking to prove the doubters wrong and that is why I am predicting a rebound year for Packers tight end Jimmy Graham. Graham ran the third most routes last year out of all tight ends but only finished 12th in fantasy points, but this year he will have a healthy Rodgers throwing him the ball instead of Deshone Kizer for half of the season.
